A project, in line with the PETRARCA Academy's approach, can be any work that establishes a connection to the landscape in the broadest sense. This connection is defined less by external criteria than by the internal framework of how a project is carried out. The aim is to develop new perceptual abilities as a prerequisite for a changed approach to landscape. PETRARCA projects are therefore not defined by their external form, but by the approach used to develop them.

• The academy aims to contribute to the development of new perceptual skills as a prerequisite for a changed approach to landscape. This will empower and encourage people to actively and responsibly shape the development of their landscape.

• A key task lies in transforming objective perception, which focuses on the surface of the world and experiences it as a composition of isolated units, into a pictorial perception and understanding that focuses on the inner connection.

• The development of these perceptual abilities requires elements of both artistic and scientific approaches; artistic in the sense of aesthetics in its original meaning as the art of conscious sensory perception and experience; scientific in relation to the comprehensibility and transparency of the results.

• Landscape also evolves through interpersonal understanding: by sharing individual experiences, the perspective on the whole deepens and broadens. As a result of this process, a view can be gained that arises from inner agreement and is factually accurate.

By observing sensory phenomena in such a way that the essence, the idea of a thing, can reveal itself, perception becomes the ability to consciously experience qualities and to enter into responsible relationships. This is the foundation of a new landscape culture.
